Mentor log 3

So I went with my mentor for the last time last week. When I got there my mentor and the dentist were already working on a patient so I waited in the back until they finished. When they were done, my mentor asked me to help set up for the next patient. They were getting a root canal so she didn't really have to set up much. After that patient left. The dentist asked me if I could assist her with sanitizing the tools. After I was done, I went back with my mentor and just started talking about what she's doing to further her career in the dentist industry. She's been a dental assistant for 6 years now and still isn't tired of it. That's when I began to wonder if dental assisting was the right choice for me. I want to be doing something I love for the rest of my life not something I'm going to hate doing. After our talk we got back to work and she began setting up for the next patient. While they worked on the patient I ran downstairs to get their mail. When they were done they told me to watch the phone and welcome patients which concludes my last day with my mentor.

Cumulating Capstone Reflection

The capstone project consisted many components. For the physical part of my project I shadowed a dental assistant. Dental health is often a part of health people tend to ignore. People don't realize that our oral health is just as important as our are physical health and overall health. Many times people don't go to the dentist for the simple fact that they don't think it's as important as going to the doctors. Other times many people  struggle to obtain health care because it's so expensive. The moment I realize how important dental oral health was, all I pictured was a homeless person smiling with a bunch of missing teeth. Living on the streets leaves you vulnerable to a number of diseases. Coming up with a topic wasn't the hardest component of this project, but its a bit overwhelming trying to make something like health risks homeless people face so broad.

The hardest part on completing this project was the paper. Although  completing my hours was a struggle the paper really had me stressed. The organization of my paper was  hardest component. I felt like I had so much information that it was overwhelming trying to make everything flow. I ended up organizing it with each paragraph falling into the other. My first paragraph was about what causes homlessness, second paragraph was about the dangers on living on the streets, the third was about diseases they face living on the streets, the fourth was what about why it's hard for them to obtain health care and the last was about what is currently being done to help them get health care. Completing my hours was another obstacle I had to face. Even though we did have a lot of time to complete them. I had decided to finish them during spring break, but I ended up getting a job and worked the days my mentor was available. Each week I would hope there would be a day I didn't work and my mentor available. But there never was. I had gone to full days, and I had 18 hours..I needed to go one more time and I was done. I haf received a letter from the school saying I was a traunt, so i was unable to miss school a lot. I wasn't so concerned about missing my other classes, but I had 19 absences in my first period after 20 i was dropped. So I ended up going to first only and completing the rest of my hours.

Although completing specific parts of the capstone project seemed impossible. Overall I'm pretty happy that we have this project. It helped me realize that I do not want to become a dental assistant. I'm thankful that I will not go into college and major in something that I can't picture doing for the rest of my life. There wasn't a specific moment I can think of where I realize that this isn't what I want to do, but seeing my mentor be so passionate about her job really made me wonder. I want to wake up everyday and be satisfied with what I'm doing. My mentor has been in this field for 6 years now and she still trying further her abilities. I know if I were to become part of this field I would be absolutely miserable. So I'm going to follow my dreams and become a cosmetologist. There salary may not be as much as a dental assistant, but I rather be doing something I love, then be doing something I hate the for the rest of my life.

Mentor Log 2

I went to see my mentor for the 2nd time on April 5. Unlike the last time I went, it was actually pretty slow. I got there around nine; my mentor was just setting up for the 1st 2 appointment which were a married couple. After she was done setting up she began to prep for a temporary one of the patient was having. While was setting the patient began to talk to me about my plans after high school. She asked me where I was going to college and if I was interested in the dental field.  As she was asking me I relieved that I should really pursue a career I would actually enjoy and dental assisting isn’t that. When my mentor was done prepping she began to measure the tooth she was going to put the temporary. She would put this white stuff inside her mouth for about a min. When it was set it would have a mold of the tooth that needed the temporary. While she was putting the actually temporary my mentor told me to go inside the room where they sanitize the utensils. While I sat there the dentist came in and told me to sanitize stuff for her. After I was done she told me to go be the receptionist. I basically did that for the rest of the day.

Mentor Blog 1

So I finally went to get some hours done this Thursday. Not gonna lie it was way more then I excepted it to be. So I got there around 9am. My mentor greeted me and introduced me to the dentist. After that she got straight to work. We went into this little room were she should me how to sterilize tools. Then started showing me how to make a night guard for your teeth. When she was in the middle of making the night guard she had to go set up for the first patient. He was just getting a root canal so she didn't have to set up to much. When she was done setting up she greeted the patient and began taking x-rays. When she was done the dentist came into the room and greeted the patient. That's when mentor could leave and finish the night guard. But she was quickly interrupted having to go clean up for the next patient. She began cleaning the whole room with these special wipes that were strong enough to kill the HIV virus. She began explaining to me how important it is to clean every single thing that was touch. The next patient didn't require much of a set up since he was just having teeth aches. Turns out the patient had food stuck in between his teeth he was out the door within 10 mins. Although he wasn't in there for long my mentor had to wipe down the whole room. She then began to set up for the next patient who just needed a root canal. She pulled up her x-rays and left the dentist to do her work. That was the end of the morning shift. When we were on are lunch break she began to talk to me about how taking care of your teeth is as critical as you overall heath. She also started to explain to me how important dental assistants are etc. After are lunch break was done. She began to set up for the next patient. While she set up I ran some errands for the secretary in the front. When i got back the next patient had arrived and was taking a claiming medicine because he was extremely nervous. Once he claimed down my mentor asked him if he wanted to watch a movie. She put on the movie he wanted to watch and they began the procedure. When they were done he seemed very out of it and my mentor offered him some food. After that there was just cleaning and root canals the rest of the day. Overall it was a long trying day.

Oceania..

I believe Winston biggest conflict is being part of a party that basically runs his life. I mean there's a telescreen in his apartment which is always on that is set to monitor his every move. "Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. Its was safer..."  Who wants to be  living in contest fear: having to think of everything your doing since "even a back can be revealing." In Oceania all citizens also are required to go to this 2 minute hate. A 2 minute hate is basically a gathering of citizen that are required to trash talk there nations enemy's but many many also take the time to vent there feeling."People were leaping up and down in there places and shouting at the top of there voices in an effort to drown the maddening bleating voice that came from the screen." Not only are you required to go this everyday in Oceania but,  can't even write in his diary since it is considered an act of rebellion against his party. Writing in his diary was considered a thought crime. A thought crime in Oceania is considered to be the worst thing you can do and if your caught by the thought police you can get into big trouble. Not only is Winston in constant fear of being caught my by the thought police but he been of accused of thought crime by junior Spies. Which are kids that watch over adults to see if there are being loyal to there party.

Fiscal Cliff

Fiscal Cliff is a revenue, which is basically spending and and increasing taxes that could possibly lead are country into a recession. The democrats want to stop taxes rates for most Americans and raise taxes by almost 40% for the wealthier Americans. While the republicans want to block tax rates and only raise taxes for weathier Americans by 2%. The democrats don't want to compromise unless taxes for the wealthy are raised.

When I looked up Fiscal Cliff, I automactly clicked the news search. This way it made it easier to find results that were relvant and recent. Most of the articles talk about what was currenly going on with both sides. This will indeed come in handy when I doing my Senior project because it will help me find up to date information. It will also help me narrow down my searches to more relvant information

My Hero

My hero would have to be my mom. Although my mom doesn't have any super powers, she is by far the most selfless, strongest, considerate, independent and generous person I know which is more then enough to be considered a hero. She may not be like Mr. Extreme, Master Legend or Beowulf that are just ordinary people helping others in danger. But she is a mother, a mother that no matter what the situation is she is always putting her kids first. If we ever needed any she does her best to provide us with what ever we need. If were sick she's there taking care of us, taking us to the doctor and giving us are medicine until we feel better. In Big Fish, Will keeps the memory of his father alive by telling his stories. I will keep the memory of my mother alive by nurturing and caring for my kids just as much as she does, but for now i will continue learning and appreciating my hero
